Folklore and Traditions: Bringing Cultural Heritage into the Classroom

About this course

This Erasmus+ course is for teachers and school staff who want to use folklore, traditions and cultural heritage to make learning more meaningful, creative and inclusive. Through Spanish culture you will see how traditions live on in everyday life. You will learn the basics of flamenco and sevillanas, traditional songs, rhythms and popular games. You will also look at legends and storytelling, local festivals and celebrations, traditional crafts such as fans, shawls and decorative arts, and the role of food and gastronomy in community life. You will also discover how heritage can be kept alive and reinvented through new technologies, digital storytelling and creative projects. Throughout the course you will share the folklore and traditions of your own country with colleagues from across Europe. This turns the course into a real intercultural exchange and helps you build European projects and partnerships. You will learn how to use music, dance, stories, crafts and celebrations to work on identity, diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging in your school. The course is fully practical and no previous experience is needed. You will leave with ready-to-use activities and a cultural heritage project to bring back to your students and your school community.
