Every child has the right to feel safe at school, and every adult in the school community plays a part in making that happen. Protecting children means knowing how to recognise when something is wrong, how to respond, who to inform and how to create a school culture where violence is prevented and children feel able to speak up. This safeguarding training gives you the knowledge and practical tools to protect children and young people and to build a positive climate of coexistence where everyone is respected. It is designed for everyone working in a school, from classroom staff and tutors to school leaders and support staff.
Over five days, you will explore the principles of child protection based on children's rights and learn about the different forms of violence and harm children may experience, both offline and online. You will learn to recognise warning signs and risk factors, respond appropriately when a child shares a concern, and record and report information following clear procedures. You will also look at what makes an effective school protection protocol, the role of the person responsible for safeguarding in a school, and how to work with families and external services, sharing practices from participants' own countries. Finally, you will explore how a positive school climate, clear codes of conduct, student participation and bullying prevention help create safe environments for everyone.
By the end of the week, you will have designed a safeguarding or school climate initiative for your school and created a plan to strengthen protection and coexistence in your school community.
