Whether you teach English or teach your own subject through English, today’s students need more than grammar and vocabulary. They need to use the language to communicate, think and express themselves with confidence. This Erasmus+ KA1 teacher training course is for non-native English-speaking teachers who want a stronger English teaching methodology and practical tools to plan effective, engaging, student-centred lessons in English in any classroom.
Over five days, you will explore the main approaches to modern language teaching: the communicative approach, task-based learning, the lexical approach and skills-based teaching. You will see how each one works in real lessons, including subject lessons taught in English. Short theoretical input is combined with practical workshops where you try activities that develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. You will also learn how to scaffold language so students can follow subject content, adapt your teaching to mixed-ability and diverse groups, keep students motivated, give useful feedback and assess progress fairly. You try every activity yourself first, so you understand it from the students’ side before using it in your own classes. Along the way, you build your confidence as a non-native teacher using English in the classroom.
By the end of this professional development course, you will have a varied toolkit of methods and activities and a practical plan to make your lessons in English more communicative, engaging and effective.
