Screens are part of every school day and almost every hour of students' lives outside school. Used well, technology opens doors to learning and connection, but too much screen time, constant notifications and online risks can affect attention, sleep, relationships and emotional wellbeing. This digital wellbeing course gives you the knowledge and practical tools to help students, and yourself, build a healthier and safer relationship with technology. It is designed for anyone working in a school who wants to respond confidently to today's digital challenges.
Over five days, you will explore how screens and social media affect the brain, attention and emotions, and what research says about screen time at different ages. You will learn how to recognise and prevent common online risks such as cyberbullying, misinformation and privacy issues, and how to teach digital citizenship in a positive, non-alarmist way. Through case studies, practical workshops and group work, you will also discover how to involve families and how to build school-wide routines and agreements that support healthy tech habits.
By the end of the week, you will have designed your own digital wellbeing activity, workshop or school initiative and created a personal plan to promote balanced technology use in your school community.
