Social-emotional learning in the classroom

About this course

Students who can understand their emotions, get along with others and make responsible choices learn better, behave better and feel better at school. This SEL course shows you how to teach these skills in a practical, playful and age-appropriate way, from pre-primary to secondary. Instead of treating emotions as something that gets in the way of learning, you will learn how to make them part of everyday classroom life.

Over five days, you will explore the five core areas of social-emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. For each one, you will try out activities, games, routines and discussions adapted to different ages, and see how to integrate them into regular lessons without needing extra time in the timetable. You will also learn how to create a classroom climate where students feel safe, respected and ready to learn, and how to involve families in supporting their children's emotional growth.

By the end of the week, you will have designed your own set of SEL activities for your age group, shared ideas with colleagues from other countries and created a plan to bring social-emotional learning into your classroom and school.
