Description
Many of the challenges students will face in the future do not have one right answer: they require creativity, empathy, collaboration and the courage to try, fail and improve. This design thinking course shows you how to use a human-centred, creative problem-solving process both to rethink your own teaching and to help students tackle real problems in a structured and motivating way. It works in any subject and at any stage, from primary and secondary to vocational and higher education.
Over five days, you will learn and experience the five stages of design thinking: empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test. Through hands-on design challenges, you will practise observing and listening to users, defining problems clearly, generating ideas, building quick prototypes with simple materials and improving them through feedback. You will then explore how to bring design thinking into your classroom, adapting projects to different ages and levels, linking them to curriculum goals and assessing creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills. You will also see how the same process can help teams improve school spaces, routines and projects.
By the end of the week, you will have designed your own design thinking project for your students or school and created a plan to introduce this approach into your teaching.
