Description
Teaching English today means much more than explaining grammar and vocabulary: students need to use the language to communicate, think and express themselves with confidence. This course gives you a clear understanding of modern English teaching methods and practical tools to plan effective, engaging and student-centred English lessons in any classroom.
Over five days, you will explore the main approaches to language teaching, from the communicative approach and task-based learning to lexical and skills-based approaches, and see how each one works in real lessons. You will combine short theoretical input with practical workshops, trying activities that develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. You will also learn how to adapt your teaching to mixed-ability and diverse groups, keep students motivated, give useful feedback and assess progress in a fair way. Every activity is experienced first-hand, so you will understand it from the students' side before using it in your own classes.
By the end of the course, you will have a varied toolkit of methods and activities and a plan to make your English lessons more communicative, engaging and effective.
