Description
Video, audio and online tools are now part of almost every lesson, but many of them still create barriers for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. A video without captions, an audio-only explanation or an online activity that depends on sound can leave these students behind. This course shows you how to create inclusive digital lessons that are fully accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing students, while making learning more engaging for the whole class.
You will explore practical digital tools and teaching strategies that put visual communication at the centre of learning. You will learn how to add and edit captions and subtitles, choose and create visual-based materials, use interactive storytelling with images and text, and design online activities that do not depend on sound. You will also discover assistive technologies, such as speech-to-text tools, and learn simple strategies for communication in the classroom, including how to work with sign language interpreters and support staff. Every session is hands-on, so you will create real accessible materials for your own lessons.
By the end of the course, you will be able to design digital lessons that are engaging and accessible, ensuring equal learning opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and benefiting every learner in your class.
