Job shadowing is one of the most practical ways to learn from colleagues abroad: seeing how others teach, train, organise and support learners in their real working environment. This structured job shadowing programme is hosted by an education or training organisation and can be adapted to vocational education and training (VET), school education and adult education. Participants carry out planned observation in classrooms, workshops or workplaces, according to their professional profile and learning goals.
The observation focuses on four key areas: teaching and training practices, learner support, the organisation of the centre and the quality standards it applies. Before the programme starts, participants receive the schedule of the classes or sessions they will observe. During the observation days, they follow the timetable of their assigned host teacher or trainer, taking part in the daily life of the organisation. Breaks offer a natural space for informal conversation and professional exchange with the host teacher and other staff members, so participants can ask questions, compare practices and build professional contacts.
By the end of the programme, participants will have observed real practices in a different context, reflected on how they compare with their own and identified ideas to transfer to their own organisation.
