Staff and students are already using AI every day, for lesson planning, homework, reports and communication, but in many schools there are still no clear answers to basic questions: what is allowed, which tools are safe, what happens to students' data and how to keep assessment fair. This course guides you step by step through creating your school's AI policy, a clear and practical document that sets the rules, protects the school community and gives everyone the confidence to use AI responsibly. It is designed for school leaders, digital and AI coordinators, data protection leads and anyone responsible for how technology is used in their school.
The course combines the five key areas every AI policy needs. With ethics, you will reflect on fairness, bias, transparency and the decisions that must always remain human. With the GDPR, you will learn in plain language how to protect the personal data of students and staff when using AI tools. With the EU AI Act, you will discover what the new European rules mean for schools, which uses of AI are considered high-risk and which are not allowed. With academic integrity, you will define clear rules on how students can and cannot use AI in homework, projects and exams, and how to adapt assessment. Finally, you will learn how to choose safe AI tools using a simple evaluation checklist, including age limits and student accounts.
The week is built around one practical goal: each participant leaves with a complete draft of their school's AI policy, reviewed by peers and trainers, together with a plan to implement it, train staff and communicate it to students and families.
