Coaching and mentoring for teachers: leading from the classroom

About this course

This coaching and mentoring course for teachers is for classroom teachers who want to support colleagues, guide new teachers and help students grow, without needing a formal leadership role. Many of the most important changes in a school start in the classroom, with teachers who share their experience, ask good questions and help others find their own solutions. The course shows you how to take on that role with confidence.

Over five days, you will learn the key principles and practical tools of coaching and mentoring. These include active listening, powerful questions, simple coaching models such as GROW, goal setting and constructive feedback. You will practise peer coaching with colleagues, explore how to mentor newly qualified and less experienced teachers, and discover how coaching techniques can boost student motivation, reflection and independence. Sessions are hands-on, with real school scenarios, coaching practice in pairs and trios, and plenty of time to reflect on your own practice.

You will leave with a coaching toolkit, a set of ready-to-use questions and conversation structures, and a plan to start a simple peer coaching or mentoring initiative in your school.
