Portuguese for international teachers and staff: language and culture

About this course

This Portuguese course for beginners is open to everyone who wants to communicate confidently in everyday situations and understand the culture behind the language. It welcomes teachers, trainers, school staff, professionals from any sector, travellers and anyone curious about Portugal. No previous Portuguese is needed. The course focuses on European Portuguese, the Portuguese spoken in Portugal, so you can use it straight away in cafés, shops, restaurants, on public transport and when getting to know local people.

Over five days, you will learn essential vocabulary, pronunciation and key structures through role-plays, real-life simulations and communicative games. Each session connects language with Portuguese culture, from greetings and social customs to café life, food, music and local festivals. This way you understand not only what to say, but how and when to say it. You will also reflect on intercultural communication and how to apply it in your own life, work and community.

This beginner Portuguese course combines language practice with cultural immersion and personal development. You will leave with a personal phrasebook, a small intercultural action you can put into practice back home, and a plan to keep learning Portuguese after the course.
