Sustainability is not only for science or geography lessons: maths, languages, history, art, technology and vocational subjects can all help students understand environmental challenges and feel able to act. This sustainability course shows you how to bring GreenComp, the European framework of sustainability competences, into your own lessons, whatever subject you teach. It is designed for primary, secondary and vocational classrooms and focuses entirely on what you can do with your students.
Over five days, you will explore the four areas of GreenComp and see how they connect with the content and skills of your subject. You will try out classroom activities and projects on zero waste and the circular economy, from analysing everyday consumption to designing solutions that reuse and repair. You will learn how to teach climate change in a positive, hopeful way that avoids fear and helps students move from worry to action. You will also discover a wide range of screen-free games, simulations and hands-on activities you can use straight away, and practical ways to assess green competences with rubrics, observation and self-assessment. Every session connects directly with the final goal of the course.
By the end of the week, you will have designed your own green teaching unit for your subject, ready to use with your students, and created a plan to integrate sustainability into your everyday teaching.
